RV Tank Sensors: Monitoring Your Fresh, Gray, and Black Water Levels
Maintaining your RV’s tank levels is crucial for a smooth and sanitary camping experience. Tank sensors provide an indication of how full your fresh (drinking water), gray (wastewater from sinks and showers), and black (wastewater from the toilet) tanks are, allowing you to plan refills, drainage, and avoid unpleasant overflows.
Types of RV Tank Sensors:
There are two main types of RV tank sensors:
Capacitive Sensors:
These use electrical signals to measure the water level’s dielectric constant (how it interacts with electricity). They can be accurate but may be prone to malfunctions due to buildup or mineral deposits.
Ultrasonic Sensors:
These emit ultrasonic waves and measure the time it takes for the waves to reflect off the water surface, determining the fill level. Generally more accurate than capacitance sensors but can be affected by tank shape or obstructions.
